Who Are We?
Welcome to "Society at 229" a social lounge centered around the rich history of Brooklyn Charlotte and one of its historic buildings, the Mecklenburg Investment Company (M.I.C.) building. An experience, a journey through time that will take you back to the early 1900s when the third floor of this building housed a social club, called “The Lodge” for leaders within the community to gather. Many meaningful conversations & collaborations for the greater good came out of this building.
Through "Society at 229" we invite you to be a part of a continuation of history. We are connected to the the M.I.C. and exudes the same energy and sense of preservation. This is an opportunity to be a part of something greater, to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for heritage, community and harmony. It is a Social Lounge where community can gather for live jazz, host corporate and social workshops or events and enjoy visiting the connecting Uptown Brooklyn Gallery for fine art.
"Society at 229" is also the home of the Grooming Greatness (501c3) a nonprofit organization committed to Grooming Youth, Veterans & Grassroots nonprofits by providing educational resources to enrich and expose them to opportunities that will enhance their future success with a strong focus on connection of the arts to wellbeing.
The founders of this initiative, Kevin and Monique Douglas, look forward to you joining in their vision of establishing a beacon of light with a standard of excellence our city has long been waiting for.
